To be in compliance with Texas law, a Dental Assistant may not position or expose dental x-rays unless the Dental Assistant is REGISTERED with the State Board of Dental Examiners (SBDE). SBDE Registration: 512.463.6400.
Once you have successfully completed a Dental Assistant Course and Examination with an SBDE Approved Provider, you must apply to the SBDE for Registration. Upon receiving the certification of Registration from SBDE you may use the RDA Credential. SBDE Licensure Verification.
A Registered Dental Assistant is required to renew Registration annually with:
Copy of current Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Card
Six (6) hours of Continuing Education (CE)
Renewal Fee
Dental Assistants are required to renew their registration yearly before the expiration date. A renewal form will be mailed 60 days prior to the registration expiration date and will reflect a renewal fee to be paid.
Please check your name and/or address and make any changes on the renewal form. If you do not receive a renewal form 60 days before your expiration date, please E-mail or FAX your written request for a duplicate renewal form to the SBDE: At this time there is no method of renewing a dental assistant registration online.

Self-Monitoring Checklist: The TSBDE Enforcement Committee has approved a Self-Monitoring Checklist to serve as a reminder to some of the administrative requirements for operating a dental office. This list can be used as quick reference to the Dental Practice Act and SBDE's rules and regulations to ensure compliance.
